..: ITSLEIF EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

Aim and priority definition

This programme which is implemented in the ITS LEIF Project under NA3 and NA4 for experienced and young researchers, respectively, has several aims. It intends:

• to initiate and to foster collaborations between different participants of the ITS LEIF Project
• to promote the transfer of scientific and technical Knowledge and Know-how, in particular concerning the increase of the performance of the access-giving Infrastructures
• to import new knowledge from outside to the benefit of the ITS LEIF Project
• to motivate and to attract new user groups which intend to apply for Transnational Access
• to provide a special training for young scientists as users of the low-energy ion beam facilities
• to support the exchange of material for a more efficient use

Eligibility (Who can apply?)

According to its aims, all members of ITS lEIF as well as researchers and technichians not directly involved in the Project are eligible for this programme. In case of too many demands a selection will be made. Defining the status of the applicants as

• regular participant: member of a Contractor who has signed the ITS LEIF Contract (see website / "Partners")
• associated participant: applicant belonging to an associated group mentioned in the ITS LEIF Project (see website / "Partners")
• other applicants

The following priority criteria have been established:

• Cat. 1: Regular participants visiting the Transnational Access-giving Facilities, i.e.:
  • ARIBE (Caen)
  • H-EBIT (Heidelberg)
  • Zernike-LEIF (Groningen),
  • ELISA (Aarhus)
  • QU-LEIF (Belfast)
• Cat. 2: Associated participants visiting  the Transnational Access giving Facilities
• Cat. 3: Regular participants visiting other regular participants
• Cat. 4: Associated participants visiting regular participants
• Cat. 5: Potential future users (not yet involved in ITS LEIF activities) visiting Transnational Access-giving Facilities
• Cat. 6: Other applications

Remark: Not eligible are:

• applications asking for support for performing experiments at one of the Transational Access giving Infrastructures (such a demand has to be formulated under the TA-Activity of ITS LEIF)
• applications asking for support for particpation in national and international conferences

Application:

Each person, who wants to apply for support, has to fill out an Exchange application form individually, giving the required information, and send this form to the ITS-LEIF Office (itsleif@ganil.fr).This application form has to be submitted at least 1 month before the travel schedule.

Reimbursement:

Typical exchange visits have been defined in the ITS LEIF proposal with approximate funding as follows:

• Exchange of senior scientists (1 month) - up to 2 000 € (NA3)
• 1-month visit of young scientist - up to 2 000 € (NA4)
• Short-term visit (1 week) - up to 1 000 € (NA3, NA4)
• Exchange of technical staff (1 week) - up to 1 000 € (NA3, NA4)

In all cases, the reimbursement will be treated and paid by the ITS-LEIF Office. To this end, the applicant has to send all of his travel and accomodation/meals bills to the ITS LEIF Office, which will reimburse the costs for transportation and subsistence. In the case of NA4 applications (PhD-students and postdocs), it is possible (when required by the applicant) that the travel tickets are purchased by the ITS LEIF Office before the exchange visit (electronic ticket). This requires, however, that an exact planning of the visit is communicated to the ITS LEIF Office well in advance.

After the visit the applicant has to give a short report on the outcome of the exchange visit. Without this report, the reimbursement will not be done.
